Coastal Climate Intelligence Initiative
An integrated programme connecting potential fishing-zone guidance, ocean safety, catch intelligence and climate-aligned capital with community knowledge at the centre.
The challenge
Coastal decisions need one intelligence layer
Fishers, institutions and investors often work with fragmented information. Satellite products, forecasts, local experience, catch records and capital decisions sit in separate systems. TerraVerge is bringing them together in a usable coastal operating model.
The initiative begins with fisheries because the need is immediate, but its architecture can support wider safety, conservation, planning and investment applications.
How it works
Four connected operating modules
Potential fishing-zone intelligence combines environmental indicators and spatial suitability workflows. Ocean-safety information will draw from the Kenya coastal model and field validation. Catch reporting creates a feedback layer, while the capital pathway aligns financing decisions with climate and operational windows.
The platform is co-designed through baseline surveys, participatory mapping, interviews and direct testing with coastal users.
What we are building
Infrastructure designed to travel
The programme is built as a repeatable implementation method: configure the environmental data, localise the decision rules, validate with users, deploy the advisory interface and improve it through evidence.
That structure can be adapted for another county, coastline or country without copying assumptions that only apply to Kilifi.
